We also learned how mosquitoes and other biting, flying critters can be attracted, rather than repelled. Why would you want to attract them somewhere? So they will all go to the place where you are not, which is an appealing strategy for dealing with them.
This is what my wife did when went to the old fashion Drive-in movies. She use me to attract the mosquitoes so she could then watch the movie!
