Bee Poster, Additional Law Enforcement Officer, Fire Crews Busy

Bee Poster Available from Ranger Pam Darty

Pamela, Not Pam
Our new law enforcement Ranger just arrived.  Her official date to report is July 3rd, then only days later she will report to Glynco, Georgia for 17 weeks of federal training.  Afterward, she journeys to her training Refuges for months before she reports back to duty at the Lower Suwannee.  She has been a state game warden in Georgia, and just finished her job with the Corps of Engineers there.

Pamela Garrison will be back at the Refuge in about a year to begin her Fish & Wildlife Service career.  Kenny is giving her orientation and tours this week.  Hopefully, she’ll remember it all while she’s away for nearly a year of training.  We all wish her well.

Smoke on the Water & through the Woods
The fire crew has been busy with small fires throughout the Refuge and beyond. Most of the crew was deployed to Okefenokee, Merritt Island, and Texas fires.  Luckily, Anthony who’s been fighting fire since he was a youngster, had returned from Texas fires and drove the engine to where Jason had located the swamp fire.  It would blaze, then slow as it hit the wet areas of the unusually dry swamp.  Smoke has been crossing the Suwannee and filling the woods in Levy County for days now. We’re wondering when the June showers are arriving!
