Honey Bees

 

On Friday, August 19th, an important film sponsored by the Alachua County Beekeepers Club is opening at the Hipp in Gainesville. It is "Queen of the Sun", a film about bees. The opening coincides with National HoneyBee Awareness Day. Slow Food Gainesville will host the visiting National and State Honey Princess and Queen at a "Honey Reception" from 6:30-8:30 on the opening night.

Additionally there will be two speakers during the week:

• Aug 21st Sunday after the 4:30 show (6pm-6:50) Jerry Latner who has been working with honeybees for over 50 years. He owns Jerry’s Beehives and has managedDadant & Sons Beekeeping supply company in High Springs for over 40 years.

• Aug 24th Wed from 6:45-7:45, after the 5:15  show, Jason Graham will speak. He will discuss what you can do to help native bees in your area and will introduce you to some of the bees that may be residing in your own backyard.
