Involvement

There are many ways to become involved as a member of Friends.

In the activities and education area, Friends members can participate in, and lead, birding, nature, kayak, bike, photography, butterfly, and other activities. Members with knowledge in areas of natural history, ecology, nature appreciation, native plants, trees, fish, bats, amphibians, and lots of other fields are eagerly sought to share their knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm with other members. Whether you are formally educated or your knowledge is informally acquired, the Friends want to learn from you.

In communication areas, members also assist with the electronic, email newsletter and with The Ibis, as well as by helping encourage interest in the refuges by posting to the Friends website and Facebook pages.

During festivals, such as the Cedar Key Spring Arts Festival, Clamerica, and the Cedar Key Seafood Festival, the Friends have a booth for education and fundraising. Members sell our t-shirts and tote bags, tell visitors about the refuges and offer free maps and brochures.

Friends members also can assist, from time to time, on the refuges in administrative, maintenance, environmental education, and outreach services.
