Longleaf Pine Planting Project - $5,000
The Lower Suwannee Refuge had received authorization for Refuge Forester Daniel Barrand to manage the planting of 60,000 longleaf pine trees on a 40- to 50-acre area of the Refuge. The cost for acquiring and planting the trees is $10,000. The funding for the project was recently rescinded. The project is right at the core of the Refuge's mission. By eliminating some other repair and maintenance work, the Refuge can fund about half of the cost. Friends hopes to fund the rest
