The Cedar Key Public Library has a popular annual Lecture Series with presentations on most Thursdays and Saturdays in the winter and spring. Friends board member John Thalacker and other community leaders work on a committee with the library manager to recruit speakers on topics of community interest. Several are scheduled that relate to the Refuges and to Friends interests, including: 
  • Thurs. Jan 26 at 5 p.m. -- John Stark, Refuge Deputy Manager, Welcome to your local National Wildlife Refuge/USFWS Role in the Department of Interior
  • Thurs. Feb 2 at 5 p.m. -- Savanna Barry, PhD-UF/IFAS The Incredible Horseshoe Crab
  • Sat. Feb 4 at 10:30 a.m. -- Gina Kent, Avian Research and Conservation Institute, Swallow-tailed Kites: A 10,000 Mile Journey
  • Sat. Feb 11 at 10:30 a.m. --  Leslie N. Sturmer, UF/IFAS Shellfish Aquaculture Extension The Story and Significance of Shellfish Aquaculture in Cedar Key
  • Thurs, Feb 16 at 5 p.m. -- Friends Past President Debbie Meeks and President-elect Denise Feiber What to Do and See on a Visit to the Lower Suwannee Refuge
  • Thurs. Mar 2 at 5 p.m. -- Daniel Barrand, Refuge Forester, USFWS/LSNWR The History of Cummer Mill  and John McPherson, Friends board member Restoring Vista
  • Sat, Mar 11 - 10:30 a.m. -- Dr. Ken Sassaman Amazon Travels: How the Ceremonial Gatherings of Modern Tribal People Inform Archaeological Perspectives on Shell Mound 
  • Thurs. March 23 at 5 p.m. -- Friends board member Barbara Woodmansee, Butterflies of North Florida
