UPDATE: Construction work has begun on the Shell Mound pier so this year only we are decamping our Winter Solstice Celebration and holding it at the Cedar Key City Park, 2nd Street and A Street, instead. On Thursday, December 21 from 4pm - 6pm Ginessa Mahar and Ken Sassaman will give fascinating archaeological talks while we await sunset. Look for our new Friends' trailer with sale shirts and holiday merch. See you in Cedar Key!

Hi Amy. We are working on the details of the "workday" and celebration. We would like to be able to make improvements both on the Shell Mound trail and the Dennis Creek trail, but Dennis Creek might take more equipment and not just human power. We should have a plan after some of the regular trail-keepers go out to scope it over the weekend. We will keep posting updates and I will be sure you get them. Happy Thanksgiving.

When the Friends' crew went to Dennis Creek to scope out what would be needed for the workday, they found that there was not enough work needed to warrant a whole work event. They cleared the trail that day and it is now open and ready to be hiked.
